The Wilkinet Baby Carrier was designed by Sally Wilkins when necessity became the mother of invention. The Wilkinet gently cocoons a 5lb newborn baby yet is strong enough to carry a chunky toddler.

This fairtrade organic Wilkinet is eco-friendly:

• Certified fairtrade and organic cotton grown in India. Our supplier offers the farmer a price that more than covers the cost of production, but beyond that, they work towards reducing production costs, and increasing profits for the farmers.

• Dyed at an environmentally friendly facility in Pondicherry (India), which has a municipal effluent plant for all waste water. The main byproduct is salt - this is pumped back into the sea - not onto farmlands or into rivers. The dyes are non-azo reactive dyes and do not contain any heavy metals.

• The cotton is woven in a village co-operative in rural Southern India. All weavers are guaranteed above average wages, consistent work and positive working conditions (no sweat shops or child labour) - many farmers in the area are able to supplement their diminishing incomes with textile work to stay out of debt.

• Shipped, by boat, to the UK with fewer emissions.

• The Wilkinet is made in the UK - in a low-employment area of England, offering well-paid, skilled work for people who might otherwise be unemployed.

• Packaged in a natural cotton, drawstring bag - no plastic or cardboard to throw away - and the bag is a great way to keep your carrier clean when not in use.
